1. A 72 year old male with a history of COPD, presents to his GP with a ‘flu-like’ illness with cough and fever. Sputum culture shows Gram negative cocci.
2. A 52 year old female businesswoman presents with malaise, headache, myalgia and a more recent onset of dry cough and confusion. O/E her chest is normal. Bloods show a raised CRP and hyponatraemia.
3. A 41 year old male tropical bird dealer presents with a headache and dry cough. On examination, he has a low-grade fever and splenomegaly. CXR shows patchy consolidation.
4. A 19 year old male student presents with fever, chest pain and a cough producing rusty sputum. CXR shows right lower lobe consolidation. Bloods results: WCC 42.3, Neutrophils 38.0.
5. A 84 year old diabetic woman presents with SOB and cough. CXR shows cavitating shadowing in the right upper lobe and culture shows Gram negative bacteria.
