1. 70 year old women on broad spectrum antibiotics for pneumonia. Develops crampy abdominal pain, fever and diarrhoea. 

 

 

2.  3 weeks post elective angioplasty. 55 year old man presents with fever, and cellulitis on both wound not responding to regular antibiotics. Blood culture positive from gram positive cocci.

 

 

3. Following a dinner in hospital 5 of the junior doctors came down with fever & diarrhoea 18 hours later.  Some patients in different wards were found to be similarly affected.  The common food history of all those sufferers was the Christmas turkey.

5. 77 year old male inpatient with a history of dementia, noted be pyrexial and dyspnoeic with widespread crackles and bronchial breathing.
