1. 21 yr old medical student presents to A&E complaining of nausea, vomiting and RUQ pain. She has been depressed and stressed about exams over the last few weeks and blood tests show raised transaminases.
2. 34 year old man presents with jaundice and signs of chronic liver disease. He has a history of psychiatric problems. A Rhodanine stain of a liver biopsy shows golden brown pigmentation in his hepatocytes.
3. 25 yr old gentlemen has returned from Thailand, complaining of general malaise, fever and abdominal pain. On examination, he is jaundiced.
4. 47 yr old woman presents with fever, tiredness and jaundice. She has a history of viral hepatitis A. She has high plasma levels of anti-smooth muscle antibody.
5. 78 yr old gentleman presents with a sudden collapse. He is very unwell on arrival at A&E, and shows signs of bleeding into his abdomen. FBC reveals anaemia and thrombocytopaenia, while a blood film shows the presence of shistocytes and nucleated red blood cells.
