1. A 50 year-old man with end stage renal failure presented with bone pain. Blood test showed hypocalcaemia and hyperphosphataemia. Bone biopsy showed ‘brown cell tumour’.
2. A 60 year-old post-menopausal woman presented to A&E with colle fracture. A DEXA scan was performed and her T score was -2.1.
3. A 30 year-old woman with coeliac disease presented with a 6 month history of worsening back pain and thigh pain. She also finds it difficult to climb upstairs and get up from sitting. X ray showed a horizontal fracture in looser’s zone in her left proximal femur.
4. A 7 year-old boy presented to A&E with bone fractures 3 times over the last 2 months. On examination, blue tints were noticed on the white of his eyes.
5. A 55 year-old man presented with back pain which radiates to his thighs. He also had morning stiffness in his shoulder joint. X-ray showed lytic lesions on his lumbar spine and a ‘blade of grass’ lesion on his right femur.
