1. A 75 year old caucasian females attends A/E for a fracture of the wrist while carrying groceries. She suffered fracture of the hip last winter after a fall from bed. She is lucid, apyrexial, has reduced mobility due to her hunch back but is otherwise well.
2. 75 year old man presents with gradual onset of pain in both hip and thighs. The pain now wakes him up at night. Examination reveals reduced ROM and slight erythema over the area. Xray shows pathcy cortical thickening and sclerosis in pelvis and femurs.
3. 50 yr old Asian man complains of lower back pain of gradual onset which he attributes to his work as an electrician. He also complains of lethargy, reduced appetite, insomnia and a productive cough of 6 months. Examination reveals a tender area over L1-L2 but is otherwise unremarkable.
4. A 66 year old patient, on dialysis for chronic renal failure develops vague symptoms of bone pain. The patient also has a tremor & a proximal myopathy.
5. A 65 yr old lady presents with a painful, swollen, erythematous left big toe. She is on Propranolol, simvastatin and ramipril. Polarised light microscopy of joint aspirate shows negatively birefringent crystals.
