1. A 10 month old baby is brought in by his mother with sudden onset fever. His mother remarks on his loss of appetite and excessive crying that cannot be resolved by typical measures.

 

 

2. A 9 year old girl is brought in by her mother complaining of sudden-onset of fever with a headache, muscle and joint pains, and a rash. They have recently arrived from a trip to India.

 

 

3. A 7 year old girl is brought to the surgery with a fever, and complains of a headache and nausea. On examination you notice a purpuric rash on her trunk. Investigations reveal embryo cultures are positive for gram-negative bacteria.

 

 

4. An 11 month old baby presents with a low-grade fever for over three weeks after completing a course of antibiotics. On examination you notice a fever, a rash over his trunk and limbs and posterior cervical lymphadenopathy. His mother recalls the rash began on his face, which has since cleared.

 

 

5. A 12 year old farmer’s daughter is brought in with a four week history of fever, headache and muscular pain. On observation she is profusely sweating. Her father mentions other members of the family have recently developed similar symptoms.
