For each scenario below, choose the most appropriate answer from the list above. Each option may be used once, more than once or not at all.
1. A 72 year old gentleman complains of tiredness. He has a haemoglobin of 11g/dL. He is retired and is a non-smoker. His medical conditions include rheumatoid arthritis for which he has been taking NSAIDs long-term.
2. A 65 year old lady complains of tiredness. Her haemoglobin is 9.5g/dL and a blood film shows macrocytes with hypersegmented neutrophil nuclei. An auto-antibody screen reveals the presence of parietal cell antibodies and intrinsic factor antibodies.
3. A 57 year old gentleman has a history of heartburn worsened on lying down. His most recent endoscopy shows replacement of the squamous epithelium by columnar epithelium with goblet cells.
4. A 68 year old gentleman who has smoked heavily since the age of 16 and consumes alcohol daily complains of difficulty swallowing solid food and has noticed weight loss. Investigations reveal a lesion in the middle third of the oesophagus.
5. An endoscopy of a 60 year old gentleman displayed superficial inflammation of the antral mucosa. Biopsy of the antrum revealed an increased population of lymphocytes. Gram negative Helicobacter pylori presence was confirmed.
