1.A 3 year old boy presents with bone pain and fever which his mother reports has been present for a couple of days. Blast cells are seen on a peripheral blood film.
2. A 70 year old man presents with lethargy and bruising. Dysplastic megakaryocytes and ringed sideroblasts (18%) were seen in the bone marrow.
3. A 45 year old woman presents with a one month history of night sweats. On examination splenomegaly is found. On FBC, Hb: 14g/dL, WCC:95 x109/L, platelets:200x109/L. A chromosomal abnormality of t(9;22) was seen in the malignant cells in the blood.
4. A 68 year old woman presents with flu-like symptoms. The GP notices she has several bruises and very swollen gums. On FBC, Hb and platelets were low and a leukocytosis was found. Blast cells were found in the peripheral blood film
5. A 21 year old man was treated in hospital for bacterial meningitis. Due to penicillin allergy, IV chloramphenicol was used to treat it. Three weeks later he presents recurrent nose bleeds. He also complains of palpitations. A pancytopenia was found on FBC.
