1. 23 year old Indian man presents with low back pain, and is stiff at the hips particularly first thing in the morning. Serum analysis revealed high levels of IgA, and immunoserotyping revealed the HLA-B27 geneotype.
2. 19 year old female student complains of pain in the small joins of the hand. She also comments that she has been feeling tired for several months. She has a raised ESR and complement C4 is undetectable in the serum.
3. 40 year old Secretary has recently noticed stiffness and swelling in her fingers. Genetic analysis revealed the presence of the HLA-DR4 allelle and her serum contained IgM anti-IgG antibody.
4. 64 year old male Farmer presents to GP with Ulcers over the hand joints, tight skin and complains of hands that turn red in the cold. ANA is positive.
5. 34 year old female is seen in clinic. She has noticed that her eyes droop and she is seeing double, particularly at the end of the day. The consultant proudly states that this is a type II hypersensitivity reaction and orders an EMG study.
