1. A 35-year-old man presents with severe epigastric pain and periumbilical bruising. The patient reports being confused and dehydrated, and you notice a tremor. Serum amylase: 1135 U/mL

 

 

2. A 53-year-old woman presents with a 2-week history of increasing jaundice and pruritis. The patient reports having had some upper abdominal pain, radiating to the left side of her back. She also reports having lost approximately 8kg in weight. A smooth hemi-ovoid mass is palpable in the right upper quadrant which moves with respiration.

 

 

3. A 43-year-old alcoholic presents with a 4-week history of epigastric pain, vomiting and nausea. Past medical history shows that the patient has previously suffered from acute pancreatitis. Examination reveals a large, tender, indistinct mass in the upper abdomen.

 

 

4. A 27-year-old woman presents with abdominal pain and haematemesis. She reports a 1-year history of recurrent peptic ulceration. A CT scan shows a 2-cm mass in the pancreas.

 

 

5. A 19-year-old student is admitted after having become unconscious during a football match. Prior to this, he reports having felt dizzy with double vision and developed palpitations, and puts it down to not having eaten much earlier during the day.
