For each scenario below, choose the most appropriate answer from the list above. Each option may be used once, more than once or not at all.

All these patients present to you complaining of dysuria. Given their individual risk factors and the information available to you, what is most likely to be underlying their symptoms?

1. An elderly gentleman with an indwelling catheter, who is visited on the ward by his son, who says his father says “it “hurts to pee” and that he seems “very confused and not himself”. E.coli is grown in the urine sample you send to the laboratory

2.  A lady presents to you complaining of dysuria, Klebsiella is grown in the urine sample you send to the laboratory

3.  A 21 year old lady presents to you complaining of nausea and vomiting, fatigue and dysuria. She has a history of recent unprotected sexual intercourse. E.coli are cultured in the sample you send to the laboratory.

4.  A lady presents to you complaining of dysuria. She is also worried as she has had recurrent bouts of severe pain down her left side. You notice on the urine dipstick you perform in clinic that her urine is markedly alkaline. E.coli are cultured in the sample you send to the laboratory.

5.  A 17 year old boy presents to you complaining of dysuria. He also tells you he has had recent, unprotected sexual intercourse. Initial culture results from the laboratory are negative.
