For each scenario below, choose the most appropriate answer from the list above. Each option may be used once, more than once or not at all.
1. 65 year old male inpatient with worsening renal function shows heavy proteinuria on urinalysis. Renal biopsy shows widespread thickening of the glomerular basement membrane and Immuno fluorescence shows IgG and C3 deposits.
2. A 6 year old child is found to have protein in urine after presenting with leg swelling. Renal biopsy shows no abnormalities on light microscopy, but electron miscroscopy revealed fusion of podocytes. Remission soon after steroid therapy.
3. 20 year old male presents with burning sensation on urination. Further questioning revealed that he has had a dry cough for years and has recently coughing up blood. Urinalysis showed haematuria. Soon after admission his renal function worsens. Biopsy shows formation of ‘crescents’.
4. 14 year old male returns to the surgery 2 days after complaining of a sore throat, and presents with frank haematuria. His notes reveal that this has happened twice before with swift recovery during attacks. Renal biopsy shows mesangial deposits of IgA complexes.
5. 35 year old Asian woman presents with non-menstrual blood in urine. She reports no pain on passing but says that she has been feeling weak and tired, occasionally noticing fever. Biopsy shows ‘wire-loop’ abnormalities.
