2. A 21-year-old rugby player collapses in the Redback straight after a Saturday rugby game. He is a known diabetic and his’ teammates recall him chanting, “eating is cheating” on the way there from the game.

 

 

3. A 8-year-old girl who is off school sick is given an aspirin by her mother. The girl becomes confused and begins to vomit. On examination the mother notices a rash.

 

 

4. A 9 month old boy has been brought in by his parents because he has been seizing. On examination he has a protrusion of his abdomen. Further investigation shows he has a metabolic acidosis and raised 3-hydroxy-butyrate.

 

 

5. A 58 year old women is brought in by her husband as she has been confused and drowsy. The husband is concerned as at a recent GP appointment she had one of her medications increased. He is unsure what it was but knows that she is not taking insulin. On investigation she has a blood glucose of 2.4mmol/L and her symptoms are relieved with a adextrose infusion.
