1. A 30 year old male is admitted to hospital with acute onset shortness of breath. Bloods, a chest XR and sputum samples are ordered. The sputum shows Curshmann’s spirals and Charcot Leyden crystals.

 

 

2. A 60 year old retired builder presents to his GP with a productive cough. Sputum samples are taken and H&E stain shows the presence of asbestos bodies.

 

 

3. A 50 year old lady attends the respiratory clinic. She has had a recent biopsy which shows non-necrotising granulomas and an incidental finding on her blood test showed elevated Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) levels.

 

 

4. A 30 year old female presents to A&E with sudden onset shortness of breath and chest pain. On examination you think you hear a pleural friction rub.

 

 

5. A 40 year old farmer is undergoing investigations for difficulty breathing and a chronic cough. A biopsy reveals hypertropic mucous glands and goblet cell hyperplasia.
