1. A 50 year old woman with HIV presents with a 4 week history of painful swallowing and as a result has lost weight because she cannot eat. On examination of her mouth the mucous membranes were red and sore.

 

 

2. A 42 year old man presents complaining of worsening headaches and vomiting over the past few days, he also has some neck stiffness and some blurry vision. He has recently had a bone marrow transplant for haematological malignancy. India ink stain of CSF confirms diagnosis.

 

 

3. A 25 year old woman presents with dysuria and vaginal discharge. Microscopy and gram staining shows a gram positive yeast

 

 

4. A 22 year old woman presents with a scaly rash on her arms and trunk causing hyperpigmentation of the skin. Scrapings of these areas were sent to microscopy and showed yeast cells and hyphae resembling spaghetti and meatballs.

 

 

5. A 6 year old boy presents with a single patch of circular hair loss on his scalp. There was no fluorescence under a woods lamp.
