1. A 28 year old banker is brought into A+E when his girlfriend finds him semi-conscious. She says that he has recently lost his job. His fasting glucose is 2.1 mmol/l.
2. A 35 year old teacher complains of recurrent headaches and double vision. On further questioning, the GP finds that she is slightly confused and irritable. She has also put on 2 stones within the last 3 months. Blood tests reveal hypoglycaemia.
3. A 21 year old female medical student with type 1 diabetes mellitus returns to clinic complaining of sleep disturbance, night sweats and nightmares. There have been no recent significant changes to her medications, but she admits to working a lot and so sometimes forgetting to eat.
4. A 15-year-old boy is brought to A&E having collapsed at school. His plasma glucose is 1.7mmol/l. On examination he is thin and has fine downy hair on his face, arms and trunk.
5. A 4-month old infant presents to A&E with a seizure. She has a history of recurrent infections and failure to thrive. On examination is found to have an enlarged liver
