After a blood transfusion…

2. A 22 year old woman rapidly develops chest and abdominal pain. She is vomiting. Her face appears oedematous and she is dyspnoeic and hypotensive. She is later diagnosed with selective IgA deficiency.

 

3. A 58 year old gentleman rapidly develops shortness of breath and goes into heart failure. Assume there were no white cell antibodies in the donor blood.

 

4. A 37 year old gentleman develops a mild urticarial rash.

 

5. A 45 year old woman develops a fever. This occurs eight days after the transfusion. She is also anaemic, jaundiced and has haemoglobinuria. Blood cultures are negative.
