For each scenario below,
choose the most appropriate answer from the list above. Each option may be used
once, more than once or not at all.
1. A 27 year old unconscious
female patient begins bleeding from her nose and venepuncture sites 20 minutes
after the start of a blood transfusion. Her
BP is low and she is oliguric.
2. A 56 year old male has a
fever preceded by shivering an hour after the beginning of a blood
transfusion. His symptoms diminish once
the transfusion is slowed and paracetamol is administered.
3. A 33 year old male visits
his local NHS walk-in centre complaining of severe bruising. His platelet count is 7.0 x 109/L
and the doctor notes that he previously had a blood transfusion 7 days ago.
4. A 46 year old restless
female complains of substernal pain, vomiting and a feeling of oppression. She is also febrile and currently being
transfused.
5. A 49 year old female who
has previously has three children develops acute SOB and a non-productive cough
whilst being transfused. Her CXR shows
nodules predominantly in the perihilar region.
