1. 22 year old female
presented with burning sensation on passing urine, increased frequency, lower
abdo discomfort and small traces of blood in the urine. Urine dipstick was
positive for nitrites, leucocytes and RBC. Organism isolated was gram positive,
coagulase negative, catalase positive and resistant to novobiocin.
2. 25 year old male
presented with sore throat, fever, muscle aches, headache and lethargy. Further
questioning revealed photophobia and neck stiffness. On examination there was a
positive Kernig’s sign and Brudzinski’s sign. CSF analysis revealed polymorphs
cells greater than mononuclear cells, low glucose and high protein. Isolated
organism was gram negative, aerobic, diplococci and oxidase positive.

presented with SOB, fever, rash, cough, chest pain, weight loss, lethargy,
exhaustion and diarrhoea. Sexual history revealed contact with prostitutes. On
examination he had generalised lymphadenopathy, maculopapular rash, oral
thrush, reduced expansion of chest on the right hand side, dull to percuss and
crackles over the right lower zone.
5. 23 year old female
presented with symptoms of UTI. Isolated organism was gram negative, anaerobic,
motile, hydrogen sulphide positive, urease positive, indole and lactose
negative. Urine was found to be alkalytic.
