1. John, a 16yr old male, returns from boarding school with feeling
generally unwell. His parents bring him into A+E after he develops a cough and
an erythematous rash as well as vomiting and
diarrhoea. Blood tests reveal that WBC is 4x109.
2. A very ill 56yr old male presents to A+E with a severe swinging
fever, productive cough. Chest X-ray shows multi-lobar patchy consolidation as
well as multiple cysts and, what appears to be, a small pleural effusion. His
wife tells you that he recently had a bout of the flu.
3. David, a 23yr old male, presents with a headache, dry cough, confused
and with diarrhoea. Blood tests reveal his Na+ to be 125mmol/l. He
has recently returned from a trip to America.
4. A 64yr old drunk homeless man presents with a sudden onset illness
with a purulent blood-stained sputum. On examination
he has spider naevi, acities,
hepatomegaly.Chest X-Ray reveals extensive upper lobe consolidation.
5. A 58yr old heavy smoker presents with a productive cough. He has previously
been diagnosed with COPD
