old medical student presents with a one day history of vomiting and
non-bloody diarrhoea.
2. A 67 year
old man develops diarrhoea after a four day stay in hospital for
treatment of community acquired pneumonia.
3. A 38 year
old lady recently returned from a trip to Indian and presents with foul
smelling non-bloody diarrhoea in addition to abdominal cramps. She is afebrile and diagnosis was confirmed via stool microscopy,
ELISA and string test. There was no previous history of gastrointestinal
disease.
4. A 28 year
old man returned form holiday in the Far East and presented with low
grade fever and profuse “rice water stool”. Analysis revealed curved comma
shaped late lactose fermenters that were shown to be oxidase positive.
5. A concerned mother brings her 13 year old
son to the GP after presenting suddenly with vomiting and diarrhoea. She claims
that several members of his class have similar symptoms.
